You can add a Google Custom Search Engine to your blog............ Technorati Tags:custom search engine, google, search, search engines
like I have done at the top of the right sidebar. A Custom Search Engine can be used for the following purposes :
In the next step you can try it out and customize it further. After doing so click Finish. You will be taken to a page where all your search engines are listed with links to manage them. Click on the 'control panel' link in front of the name of your search engine. Click on Look and Feel link to further add a logo to your results page. Paste the url of yourlogo in the 'Provide the URL for your logo: ' text field and Save. Now when your readers enter their queries into your search engine they will get a results page with your logo at the top. See image below (click on it to magnify) :
Try it out by entering a term in the search engine at the top of my right sidebar and pressing Search.
You can make money with the new search engine using Adsense by clicking on the 'Make Money' link in the control panel. In the next window add all the details of your Adsense accountso that the Ads. start appearing in the results page.
Click on Code link in the control panel to get the code for your search engine. Copy all the code in the Search box code for your website and paste it into a Html/Javascript Page Element in your sidebar as described in How To Add Widgets.
You can also syndicate your Custom Search Engine by adding a Add to Google button to your webpage. When users click on the button your Custom Search Engine will be added to their personalized Google homepage as a Google Gadget. Get the link code for it by clicking on code link in control panel and paste it similarly as above in your sidebar. It will look like this :

Youthworker.org,
Use the Technorati Search this Blog box in the right column.
hi, what is the url i have to specify for the search results to appear?
where should i paste the second code given by google?
thanx in advance
Sunny,
Use the second option :
Search results hosting options :
On a Google-hosted page
Google's Custom Search is flawed for my blog, www.AssetAllocationInsights.com. (1) It doesn't identify all or even most of the articles containing the search words (such as "Brazil" or "India," etc). (2) In many cases when Custom Search does find the words in an article i've written, it doesn't link to the article containing my search term! Instead, it links simply to the front page of my blog. Joseph
Asset Allocation Insights,
Optimize Blog for the search engines.
Right now I see that only 44 posts in your blog have been indexed. Have you added blog to Google Webmaster?
Hi Vin, How are you getting the separate page to pop up when you use the custom search engine. This is new right, it's really cool!
Sarah,
Go to the Control Panel of your search engine. and click on 'Code' link at top.
Choose Host Results on your website - Overlay option under 'Search results hosting options'.
The overlay code makes use of the AJAX Search API and allows complete customization via CSS and Javascript.
Paste in your site URL and click the 'Generate Code' button.
Copy the code given and paste it in a Html page element in your blog.
NOTE : You cannot make money from your custom search engine if you display your results in modal overlay.
Hello, I'm having the same problem as Asset Allocation Insights. I have added the blog url into the Google webmaster. But my status for the sitemaps I added are "Unsupported file format"
Plz help me. :(

LeX,
Have a look at How to Add Blog Sitemap to Google Webmaster Tools?"
Vin, your instructions on how to add a google custom search engine to blog is quite clear. I am certain I have followed it clearly but it turns out the text entry is not visible in my search box on my blog when typing out. Any good solutions to offer to make the text black? If you don't mind, check out on my blog http://www.chilivideos.blogspot.com/ and help to resolve the issue? Again, thank you.
ChiliVideos,
In your blog template scroll down to this code :
.googlesearch input, textarea, select, button {
border: 1px solid #000000;
background-color: #333333;
color: #FFFFFF;
font-size: 11px;
padding-right: 2px;
padding-left: 2px;
}
Change the color line to :
color: #000;
Save template.
