In Technorati for Bloggers I have described how to claim your blog at Technorati. Technorati is a specialized search engine for blogs. It indexes some 55 million blogs. There are two techniques to help Technorati index your blog......

Technorati breaks up your weblog's home page into smaller sections such as posts and sidebars. You can help Technorati's spiders properly identify a unique post and its proper link destination by adding a link with a defined relationship of "bookmark" for each post. For example in the new blogger your post titles are shown by this code :

<a expr:name=''/>
<b:if cond='data:post.title'>
<h3 class='post-title'>
<b:if cond=''>
<a expr:href=''><data:post.title/></a>
<b:if cond='data:post.url'>
<a expr:href='data:post.url'><data:post.title/></a>

To see this code login to Dashboard and click on Layouts. Click edit Html subtab at top and check the box to Expand Widgets Template. Scroll down in edit Template text box till you come to above code. In the above code locate this line :

<a expr:href='data:post.url'><data:post.title/></a>

and change it to the line below :

<a expr:href='data:post.url' rel='bookmark'><data:post.title/></a>

Save Template. Now your post title is a permalink as well as easily identifiable to the Technorati spiders.

A tag is a category name used to categorize your posts in the blog. To make Technorati tags for all your posts put a rel="tag" inside the link code. For example to put a technorati tag of Permalink include this code in the Edit Html tab of your post :

<a href="" rel="tag">permalink</a>

You can do this without linking to technorati. For example :

<a href="" rel="tag">Technorati</a>

Publish post after adding your tags. See bottom of this post where I have added them. After publishing post do not forget to ping Technorati to let them know that you have added content. See Pinging simplified or try a Multipinging Tool to inform multiple search engines in one go.

I do have technorati on my blog and I want to put the code below into my blog, but I do not understand where. Do I put it at the end of each posting or do i click on the link icon and place it there?
your help will be most appreciated.
Thank you in advance

Instead of doing all that just add 'Technorati' as a label to your post since all new blogger labels are recognized as Technorati tags.

A couple of followup questions for the benefit of those who are as lame-brained as me when it comes to HTML:

After reading the section about bookmarking posts for Technorati's spiders (see 'POST TITLES,' above), I logged into the Dashboard and clicked Layouts and the Edit HTML subtab, and checked the 'Expand Widgets Template' box. (Since I was about to start monkeying with the pulsing guts of my blog, I made sure to save the template to my computer before starting surgery.)

I located the line of code and carefully spliced in the new text, but Blogger wouldn't save it. I kept getting an XML error message.
I reexamined the lines of code (Vin's, and the one I had typed), and they both looked the same except for a slight difference in font and character spacing. I copied both lines into a blank word document; once they were in the same font, I realized there was a space between post.url' and rel='bookmark'. I added the space to the line of code, and this time Blogger Saved it without protest.

I think it worked, though I'm not sure. Is there any way to check?

Also, I'm a tad confused about the Technorati tags. Like Renate, I didn't know where to place them in the body of the code. For a test, I took his suggestion and simply used the hyperlink button on the Edit HTML/Compose toolbar to insert the Permalink code into a post. Not sure that it worked, but at least nothing blew up.

I also tried Vin's suggestion of adding the word "Technorati" as one of the labels of a post, but couldn't get it to link back to Technorati. I couldn't attach hyperlinks to any of the words in the "Labels" field at the end of the post. (How did you do that in your posts, Vin? I couldn't figure it out.)

The only thing I can think to do is to add an extra line of text at the end of each post, containing the words Technorati and Permalink, and simply link the text to the destination with the hyperlink button. Or am I missing something?

Blogger's great. Thanks for all your help...

Blogger labels are pre-configured to act like Technorati tags. So you need not add separate Technorati tags below your posts.
