The No-No Follow Movement has gained quite a momentum. We have already seen how to remove it from the Comments. Today we will go after the second No-Follow tag in the new Blogger Layout Templates and remove it..........
This no=follow tag is present in the code for your Backlinks. Blogger does not incorporate Trackbacks per se. Instead Blogger has Backlinks.
Blogger has the Backlinks feature which enables you to keep track of other pages on the web that link to your posts. For example if someone else posts on a topic similar to yours and links back to your post then your post will automatically show a link to the other post. To enable Backlinks go to Settings------>Comments----->Backlinks---
---->Show--------->Save Settings. These links are shown under the posts with the title "Links to this Post" next to the Comments link. Clicking that link takes you to the post page where all the backlinks are shown under the post and the comments.
You have to wait until Google indexes the post which has a link to your blog post. Then the link of that post will appear under "Links to This Post" on the post page.
This link has the no-follow tag on it. Which means that Googlebot will not follow that link back to the originating post and index it. Hence the originating post does not get any "link-love" though it has given it to you.
Here is how to give the originating post some of your link-love back. Login to Dashboard and click on Layout. Then click on Edit Html subtab of Template tab. First backup Template by clicking the Download Full Template link. Then put a check in the Expand Widgets Template checkbox. Scroll down till you come to this code in the Blog Posts widget :
<b:includable id='backlinks' var='post'>
<a name='links'/><h4><data:post.backlinksLabel/></h4>
<b:if cond='data:post.numBacklinks != 0'>
<dl class='comments-block' id='comments-block'>
<b:loop values='data:post.backlinks' var='backlink'>
<div class='collapsed-backlink backlink-control'>
<dt class='comment-title'>
<span class='backlink-toggle-zippy'> </span>
<a expr:href='data:backlink.url' rel='nofollow'><data:backlink.title/></a>
<b:include data='backlink' name='backlinkDeleteIcon'/>
</dt>
Delete the code in red and save the template. Now GoogleBot will follow the backlinks back to the original post which will also gain from having mentioned your blog/post. You can also mention in a prominent place in your blog that backlinks are FOLLOWED and thus encourage people to link to your blog/posts. See this badge I have inserted to show that my backlinks are followed :
If you want to insert it in your template Login to Dashboard and click on Layouts. Then click Edit Html subtab of Template tab. First backup your template and then put a check in Expand Widgets Template box and scroll down till you come to this code in BlogPosts widget :
<div id='backlinks-container'>
Paste the line below immediately below the above line :
<img src="http://betabloggerfordummies.googlepages.com/BacklinksFollow.gif" style="border-width:0px"/>
If you want another just after the backlinks paste the img src line code again just before the closing tag for the backlinks-container. These images will appear before and after your backlinks on the post page.
Preview and Save template.
If you want to add the above logo to your sidebar with two clicks then click on the "GET BACKLINK BTTN" low down in the right sidebar of this blog.

God bless you!
I bet this will help my Google Pagerank rise...
I tried adding a graphic, but it doesn't show up. I presume that's because I use Feedburner and Feedflare? Does that mean I'm not getting any backlinks? Should I get rid of it?
Maybe you could expand your post to address this situation. I'm sure I'm not the only person using those tools.
Thanks, Vin! As always, your help is very much appreciated. :-)
Janie,
First enable backlinks in Settings--->Comments as shown above.
Adding the graphic is just to show that your backlinks are followed. Per se it does not enable them.
If your graphic does not show after adding the code in the template, refresh the cache. See :
How To Refresh the Cache
Vin,
Great tips you have on your site - just what i've been looking for, for ages.
Does removing no-flow really improve the Google PR?
Anonymous,
One of the factors deciding Google PR is the number of back links to your site. If you encourage more sites to link to you then the obvious has to follow.
Oh,yeah. Clearing the cache was the first thing I tried. The code is right where you said to put it, but the graphic still doesn't show up.
Janie,
Which blog have you added the graphic to?
Vin: I just figured it out! The graphic IS showing up . . . but only after you click on the perma-link to the post. It doesn't show up on the main page where I have several posts, nor does it show up when you use the peek-a-boo feature to expand the post on the main page. But I clicked on one of my entries to get the perma-link address and there it was!!
Very cool hack. Thanks again! :-)
Janie,
It is meant to show only on the post pages as that is where the backlinks appear. Your graphic is really coool!!
Love it . . .Love It! I have added your logo to my site! Thank you again for being so generous about helping others.
Did it... thanks for your great help!
Your blog is magnificent. It provides all the information that the new bloggers would require to start with their blogging activities.
Thanks so much for the great tip!
I'm going to add this to my blog for my readers.
Thanks again

Harleyblues
Harleyblues,
What is your blog url? For detailed help my email address is in left column.
Hi again Vin
I have three blogs and on two this worked perfectly. But not on the third. I got the same 404 error that harleyblues got when I previewed the changed before saving.
I don't see the solution you gave harley.
the one it does not work on is http://meeyauw-pad.blogspot.com
Thank you.
Meeyaw,
You should get a specific error message if there is something wrong with the code that you are pasting in the template. it appears in red on top of the template box. See :
http://betabloggerfordummies.blogspot.com/2007/01/error-messages-in-new-blogger-templates.html
A 404 error message means the blogger server cannot send you the page for some other reason and this error has nothing to do with mistakes in template code.
What if you are publishing via FTP? It doesn't look like you are able to get rid of the No Follow if you have your own domain and are not using blogspot.
hiii,
this post of urs was damn useful.. jus now got rid of those no-follow thing from my blog. thanks a lot.. your blog is mind blowing. i follow your blog regularly to get to know all those tips about blogging.
First, I hear so much about PageRank that it seems no one even cares about it anymore except real newbies. But the idea is still a good one even if PR is a big cluster-f.
My suggestion to you is to give us a hack for deleting backlinks since link loved backlinks could definitely incur spam.
How do we remove backlinks we don't care for?
Thanks,
Sam Freedom's Internet Marketing Controversy Blog
Sam,
Selective removal of backlinks!! Don't think it can be done. Will look into it though.

How can I do a backlist from your site now?

i have a question how to show the html code in blog.
how to show the html code below viral icon so that other can add mine.
how to do that
Kiran,
Have a look at Provide Code for Other Bloggers to Link to your Blog.
Good Tips , Thanks for your good tip.
Hi, thanks for this. Is there any way to show backlinks to the blog main page, rather than the individual posts?
Stu,
You can link to the page showing the backlinks. The link for your blog is :
http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&q=link%3Adiscofunk-atuneaday.blogspot.com&btnG=Search&aq=t
Google rigged the templates and now when you try to remove the nofollow it doesn't comply. Instead, you get an error notice after you save it.
Anonymous,
What is the exact error message?
Also see Error Messages in Blogger Templates.
Thanks for this article. It worked well for me. No error message. Anonymous might have made an error on something else.
Thanks. I followed your advice for both comments and backlinks. I really appreciate the simple instructions!
thanx helped me alot
This blog is amazing, however, I have one question left. Something I haven't found after hours of searching.
I posted a comment on another blogpost comment section with a link directing back to my site. The comment had to be reviewed before getting posted, so I just checked back a day or so later. When I did check, my comment was posted and I also noticed under the "Links to this post" on my blog had also automatically inserted the other blogs Web site url and blog name. I thought, "cool" he helps me I help him.
However, recently I realized the Links to this post was empty and a trackback link to his site no longer remained on mine. I'd really like to have a trackback link to his site, as I thought it was really interesting and it covered the same topic. Any thoughts on why the link would suddenly disappear?
I also have no idea how to re-add his Web site link, which is something I'm trying to read and figure out right now. So any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
A 1-In-100 Blogger,
The Backlinks section shows links of posts containing the link of your post.
It does not show links from comments.
Also see Backlinks with Bob and Alice.
Thanks. I followed your advice for both comments and backlinks. I really appreciate the simple instructions!
