How To Change Blog Owner?

New Visitor? Like what you read? Then please subscribe to my Blog Feed or sign up for Free Email Updates. Thanks for Visiting!

Blogger has enabled you to change the owner or Administrator for your blog. You can also use this method to transfer a blog to another Gmail Account.

This is useful when you want to separate your public and private blogs. Then your private profile will not show on your public blog and vice-versa. The profile problem can also be solved by deleting the profile widget and putting in a HTML widget.

1. Login to Blogger Dashboard.

2. Click on Settings on Dahboard for the blog you wish to transfer. Under Settings tab click on Permissions.

3. Under Blog Authors click the 'ADD AUTHOR' button. Copy and paste or type in the email address of the person you wish to invite or that of your second email account and click on Invite.

4. Email is sent to the invited account. Open your Gmail for that account and open that Email. You will see the following message :

The Blogger user XXXXX has invited you to contribute to the private blog: BLOG TO BE TRANSFERRED

To contribute to this blog, visit:

You'll need to sign in with a Google Account to confirm the invitation and start posting to this blog. If you don't have a Google Account yet, we'll show you how to get one in minutes.

If you are already a Blogger user, please note that this blog uses the new version of Blogger. To post to XXXXX's blog, you will access this new version with a Google account, instead of your Blogger account.

To learn more about Blogger and starting your own free blog visit

Click the Invite Link.

5. Clicking link opens a new window with :

XXXXX has invited you to contribute to the blog
To join this blog as an author, accept the invitation by signing in with your Account below.

Don't have a Google Account? Create your account now

6. Sign up for Blogger
Once you complete this process, you'll be able to log in to Blogger using your Google account email and password.
Email address Use a different account
Your name INVITED
Display name The name used to sign your blog posts.
Acceptance of Terms I accept the Terms of Service Indicate that you have read and understand Blogger's Terms of Service

Click Continue. will open with the new blog on your Dashboard. As you are only having a Guest Account you can only post.

7. Then repeat Steps 1 and 2. You will now see your second account as Guest under the Permissions subtab of Settings tab. Click on 'Guest' link and it will change to 'Administrator'.

8. Go to your second (invited) account and under Settings---->Permissions click Remove link for the first account. See the entire process for two bloggers summarized in the picture below :

Hello Vin! The "search this blog" field on your blog is gone! So, I'll ask here.

How do I minimize the font size on the side bar?

vin said...

Pisanu for BISEAN,

Look for the sidebar section in the template and add the line as below :

#sidebar-wrapper {
width: 220px;
float: right;

Use preview to adjust number 50 and save.

I thought I will give it a try and it works!!!!!!1Thank you a million times Vin!Would you know by any chance how to create a template instead of using those given on the blog? If you do, let me know:)))

Hi Vin,

Ok for moving the blog.
But in the atom feed, the name of the former author still appears.

How do you do get rid of it?

I hope you can help.

Someone started a blog for me on blogspot, but they didn't realize that I already have a gmail address/account and another post to another blog on blogspot.

Now I've got two different accounts, under two different usernames. Is it possible to combine both accounts, so my blogs show up together on the same dashboard, and I don't have to monitor two separate accounts?

Vin said...

Transfer one of the blogs to one account as shown in the post above. You will then have both blogs on same Dashboard.

This is a great site. I got some great help from it. However, I tried to install the "no right click" to my site and it didn't work for me. I kept getting this error message:

Your template could not be parsed as it is not well-formed. Please make sure all XML elements are closed properly.
XML error message: The entity name must immediately follow the '&' in the entity reference."

what did I do wrong?

Vin said...

Carrie Gardner,

Your advice on transferring adming rights and blog address to a new account was right on. Worked like a charm. Thank you!

Kevin Doran said...

Hi Vin,
My problem is a little more tricky. I want to move all my blogs to my main gmail account, but after sending an invite to this, i accept/log in, but it doesn't acknowledge i'm now a guest of the blog, in the Permissions of the initial account. Also, the blog doesn't show up in my main gmail account's dashboard. Yet -- here's the twist -- in the account where all the blogs are hosted, it says that my main gmail account is the only admin -- though it clearly isn't.

I've thought of bombarding Google, who state you can't change the account association, with email until they change it for me. I don't know what else to do.

Kevin Doran said...

Or, as you advise against, deleting the gmail account in the hope that it will then associate the blogs with the account it says it does/i want it to.

Vin said...

Kevin Doran,

Firstly use two browsers to login to two separate accounts simultaneously.

Secondly NEVER DELETE ANY ACCOUNT. Deleting an account does not delete the blogs associated with it. It makes you lose control of those blogs and that is a much more serious event. If you want to transfer or delete or edit a blog later you will not be able to delete it.

Thirdly if you delete a blog you CANNOT RECLAIM IT FROM ANOTHER ACCOUNT.

Lastly if you have blogs in non-Gmail accounts try the Legacy Blogs reclaim link.

Thanks Vin! Someone hacked into my old gmail account and I have added/updated/changed everything to my new account. The blog was really testing my patience until I found and followed your step by step transfer blog process!

Mamo said...

Thanks a lot! Really useful... I could finally solve it!

Dave and Cindy, and then some... said...

Help! I did that process because I opened a new gamil account and was getting rid of my old email address (I found the directions on some other site). The other site didn't mention anything about not deleting my first account. I did. Now my blog's pictures are missing! All that is shown is a box with x's in the top left have corner, where the pics should be. How do I fix this? Do I have to upload every single picture one by one? I'm not computer savy at all (in case that wasn't obvious) so any and all help will be greatly appeciated!

Vin said...

Dave and Cindy, and then some...,

Try to recover the account.

Thank you so very much!! This was exactly what I needed, written simply and easy to follow. I had almost ruined my first blog by not realising the two were connected, and now that I have transferred the 2nd blog, I can keep them separate no problems. Thank you - the Blogger Help reinstated my URL, but didnt tell me how to switch to another user. Really appreciate the help!!

Dear Vin,
Thanks so much for this step by step explanation. I wrote last Friday that I was stuck on Step 6, but with fresh eyes, I figured out what I was doing wrong. Your process worked and I appreciate it very much! I'm going to subscribe.

no, no this not working for me.
there is nothing that says guest.

secondly, the account i want to use to add on a seperate account, is the account im logging into in the beginning?

Vin said...

♥ bird,

By Guest account I meant Author account. After you accept invitation does the blog appear on your Dashboard?

Use two browsers to login to two accounts.

ok, so I have a blog which I was using with a non-Google account, but I was unaware that that account went dead, so now I can't even edit or delete the blog I have, and I have no way to get back as the admin. I have a Google account now, and would transfer the blog to it if I could. Is there anything I can do about it?

Vin said...

Try to recover the account so you can get control over the blog.

Hi, Vin. I want to change my main email address so that I can access all of my blogs with the same one...I wasn't aware that I had created this problem until after I had set things up and after my need for multiple email addresses manifested itself. Is there any way to change them all to just one?

Vin said...

You can transfer blogs as shown in above post.
