Blogger first introduced the Followers gadget and it was a big success. At present it is being integrated with the Friend Connect gadget causing some confusion.
Here are some similarities and differences between the two gadgets :

Hi Vin,
I have been dabbling w/ Wordpress & it offers a Google Friend Connect plugin where a Google Friend Connect Site Id is required. Instead of getting a new Id #, is there a way I can get the Id # from my current Google Friend Gadget & have my followers from a Blogger blog transfer to Wordpress as well?
Thanks,
Alan
Alan A,
Instead of using the plugin go to Google Friend Connect Home and click on your site and in the expanded drop down click Site Settings.
Then click the Advanced tab and in 2. Other Options--->Alternate Addresses add the link of your site.
Then paste the code for the members gadget in a Wordpress Text widget.
I have done it on my Wordpress blog at Vintip which shows same members as this blog.
THANK YOU VIN!
Alan
My followers gadget on http://citizenoftheworldwantsjustice.blogspot.com
suddenly shows a blank screen since I added feedflare. Now even after I have changed the colours etc, still no text or icons show?
MonAmi,
Which browser and version are you using? I can see it. Try clearing the cache.Enable Javascript in browser settings.
Thanks Vin. I was using Firefox3 and hadn't cleared the cache. When I checked in IE7,it was there and now also after yr instructions in Firefox.
Vin,
Thanks for the tip but when I go to the Google Friend Connect home page, it only asks me to sign up. No where can I find my site on which to click????
Alan
any success with why my followers borders are once again not appearing even though I am clearing the cache??

Alan A,
Did you click on 'Set up a New Site' link at Google Friend Connect and add your domain name (NOT your blogspot.com link)?
MonAmi,
Go to Layout---->Page Elements---->Click Edit link for Followers gadget and change the color options there so it starts showing.
OR remove it and add it again. Clear cache to see the new one.

NOOOO... :)I was under the impression that my site & its info would already be listed as I already have a following. So, I should set up a new account & if I do this, this account will retain my existing followers?
Alan
ps- I hope I din't screw something up. I did add my domain, not choosing the Blogger option, as I already have a Friend Connect widget there. However, I cannot yet add the specified code to my host account as I am still pointing to Blogger's servers. When my WP blog is ready, I will then point to new host and add the Friend Connect code although... I have no idea where to add the code. And if I do add it, you're saying that my followers from my Blogger blog will transfer? Thanks.
Alan
ps- when I said "I cannot yet add the specified code to my host account as I am still pointing to Blogger's servers. When my WP blog is ready, I will then point to new host and add the Friend Connect code although... I have no idea where to add the code."
The codes to which I was referring are the canvas.html & rpc_relay.html files.
Alan
Alan A,
GOOD NEWS!
Today I logged into Google Friend Connect and saw all the blogs in my account already added to GFC!
Obviously Google Followers is now fully integrated into GFC and you can add all the GFC gadgets to your blog directly.
In Wordpress paste the code for the members gadget in a Text widget. First you will have to add the URL of the wordpress blog as Alternate URL in Site Settings---->Advanced tab in your GFC page.
Alan A,
If you want to show same members then you have to add your site URL as Alternate in Site Settings--->Advanced tab (for the blog/site whose members you wish to show ) on GFC page.
If you upload canvas and rpc_relay to wordpress and configure it that way it will not show members from your blog and will start with zero members as independent site.
Vin,
I thought all of that available info today in GFC was a result of me signing up...guess not. I got the widget to work w/ existing followers in a WP test blog by adding the test blogs url in the Advanced tab, as you suggested. I also figured out how to upload the files to my host but ...you're saying that doing so will not produce the desired results. Google says that the files are needed for security & to use the expand & back features in the widget yet those features are working in my test blog without the canvas and rpc_relay files uploaded ??? Then if I shut down my Blogger blog will the widget still work in WP? Hmmm... One more strange happenning...when I click on the name of my site as indicated on the main page in GFC, I am taken to a 404.Hmmmm again. I was thinking that was because I have yet to upload those files, which I do not want to upload until I point the servers to my new host. Don't want to confuse the robots. Let's see if you can respond to all of that :)
Alan
ps- In regards to adding my WP url to in the Advanced tab as an addition site...the url will not change from Blogger to WP. It will remain the same.
Now say you what?
Alan
Alan A,
Please give specific answers to these questions so we can sort the confusion :
1. Login at Google Friend Connect. with same account you use to login at Blogger.com. What is the URL of the sites listed in left column?
2. Which site in blogspot do you wish to copy members over to Wordpress? Give blogspot url as well as domain name if any.
3. What is url of Wordpress site?
Vin,
1- http://www.happinesshelp.org (& a few blogspot addresses I use as test blogs which are irrelevant& do not contain followers widgets)
2- I have never used a blogspot address. From day one, I have redirected to my custom domain happinesshelp.org. But, fyi, the blogspot address is happinesshelporg.blogspot.com
3- Wordpress url will be http://www.happinesshelp.org, same as it is now. I am just moving from Blogger to WP. I will retain my registrar & simply point my servers from Google to my new host company's servers.
Alan
Alan A,
Login at Google Friend Connect using same Username and password as for Blogger login.
Click on Set up a new site link.
Click Friend Connect for Standard Web sites link.
Click Continue.
Add Site Name and Home URL.
Click Continue.
In 2 'Add the following files to your site' click Continue.
Click 'Test to Finalize setup' button.
The site will be added under the sites column.
Click Site Settings
Then click Advanced tab.
Scroll down and under 'Other Options' add your Wordpress url in Alternate Addresses box.
Save settings.
Click 'Members Gadget' link in sidebar.
Customize and get code and paste in Text widget on Wordpress site.
Hi Vin, you are such a wealth of knowledge!
I have a question... I moved from Blogger to Wordpress, and i figured out how to get my old followers to show up in the widget for my new site. But what I can't figure out is how to keep them updated.
Apparently the feed stopped working when I moved (even though I use feedburner, so my regular RSS viewing readers were not impacted) so my Followers are no longer updated. Is there a way to change the feed? or am I missing something?
my website is www.dabbled.org
Dot,
Your new blog will have a new feed address. Your followers will have to subscribe to it to get updates.
I do not see the widget in your new site.
It's not on the main page yet (the site is still a work in progress -- i think it's on a single post page).
But on Blogger I was using Feedburner for my feeds. And I'm still using feedburner, with the same address, for the moved blog. Does the "Followers" feature not use your main site feed? (Subscribers through regular RSS have had a seamless transition)
If the followers doesn't use the same syndication, i guess that would make sense on why my blogger followers are lost but my normal rss feed "followers" aren't.
Dot,
Can you give :
1. Link of original Blogger blog.
2. Link of Feedburner feeds.
3. Link of page where the Followers gadget is inserted.
Vin,
original blog: was dabbled.org, now dabbled.blogspot.com (301 redirecting)
feedburner feed: feeds.feedburner.com/Dabbled
Just moved gadget to the main page of Dabbled.org
If you can solve this I'll love you for life! :)
dot
Dot,
dabbled.blogspot.com is redirecting to dabbled.org using Javascript and NOT 301 redirection!
Your wordpress blog is also redirecting to dabbled.org.
Your blogspot feed :
dabbled.blogspot.com/atom.xml
is redirecing to :
http://feeds.feedburner.com/Dabbled
Your wordpress feed :
http://dabbled.org/feed/atom
goes to :
http://feeds.feedburner.com/dabbled
The gadget is a Google Friend Connect Gadget and not a Blogger Followers gadget.
Thanks... I'm not really sure what to do. I've lost about 300 readers from my feedburner feed too.
Very Valuable article for me.Thanx for sharing with us :)
