I have decided to do the Blog Reviews in batches since there are so many on the waiting list that if I do one per post it will just swell my archives list. So here goes..........
The first blog today is that of Atle Grimsby from Utsira, Norway. The title is Utsira as Way of Life. The template is a simple one and the blog is about blogging life on the photogenic island named Utsira in Rogaland County in Norway. Mostly in English but some post are in Norwegian. Utsira as way of Life involves: Science, Crow-stuff, Birding and Birders at Utsira, Bill Gates Freestuff, My photos, litterature, buldering and kayaking as the main postings. The blog has been started recently in December 2006. I would suggest to claim the blog on Technorati as described in Technorati for Bloggers so that people are able to find the blog easily.
Miriguy is the blog of Chee Kui and here he shares his journey to become a problogger. He chose this name because he is from a city called Miri, in Sarawak. As he says "“My hidden conspiracies”, is just to add the mysterious flavour to this blog. Nothing freaky about it. As you can see, most of my blog post are either about my journal and money making ideas. So, if you are interested to find out about making money online, please do come here regularly." His blog is about the various opportunities offered by the Internet.
The Friendship Blog is is about keeping relationships and dealing with friendships through rain or shine with a special emphasis on friendship ecards and friendship greetings. Friendship blog also is a place to find friendship advice and resources. The header is replaced by a page from another website in a clever manner.
Investment Ideaz is the blog of Gurudatta Kamath about daily updates, news and information on investments from different sources and makes life easier by having lots of daily requirements in one place like Index Quotes, Currency Conversion Price, Gold Price etc. The design is simple and three column and the emphasis is on providing a lot of content. There are many charts on stock markets and commodity prices.
Xtraordinary Living At Its Best is the blog of Rick Itzkowich who is blogging about thoughts, insights, tools to help people expand their thinking and create an Extraordinary Life. It is a motivational blog and full of stuff to inspire you. It also contains many podcasts.
Web 2.0 Reviews is a site with posts starting from Jan 2006 with posts categorized in the following subjects : Internet, Computers, Technology, Programming, Blogging, Killer Apps, Davinci Game On Google, WebDesign and SiteBuilding, Gaming. There is a lot of information on blogging and web design and Games.
Laketrees is the blog of award winning portrait artist, Kim Barker. It is an art blog featuring many of the artist's paintings. The template is simple two column with colors which do not distract from the displayed pictures.
Uncommon Notions is the blog of Deborah Gamble who lives in Utah and blogs about the Uncommon Notions. The blog has a standard blogger template without any of the bells and whistles to distract the visitor from the content. The content is wholesome and family oriented and celebrates finding joy in everyday living..
Adventures in Daily Living is the blog of :: Suzanne :: who blogs about children, books, techie oddments, pets, paraplegia, adoption, gardening and whatever else strikes her fancy. It has a beautiful three column template with the background framing the posts column. The author has taken a lot of pains by utilizing a expand/contract structure for the widgets in the sidebars to decrease it's length. This causes the blog to look less cluttered. The style is very informal and judging by the increasing number of posts every month there is no lack in commitment.
The Rose Bee is the blog of Deborah Hooper who blogs about Christian Women's Devotional, Bible Study and Fellowship site for Christian Women Writers. Christian articles and encouragement. It has a simple two column design framed in a rose color shade. Religion is the focus of this blog and it has many articles on how to succeed in life.
Creativity in Asia is the blog of Arul John who blogs about creativity at work related issues, with special emphasis to Asia. He has been a Facilitator for more than 20 years. Conducts workshops for clients in Asia and Middle East through Centre for Creative Thinking, a training service provider based in Singapore. An Australian graduate with a MBA. The blog is all about how to innovate and be more creative.
The Junky's Wife is the blog of The Junky's Wife who blogs about the ongoing story of a wife's struggle with her husband's addiction. It has helpful links for recovering addicts and is about a wife's experiences with her husband's recovery from heroin addiction.
free happy surfing is the blog of ramya who blogs about information with photos so that anyone coming in should be happy to have information along with related photos. Though started in this month only it already has a hundred posts. The template is a two column structure but because the archives section is so long it causes a very long sidebar. It would be better to select a flat/dropdown structure for the archives.
Blog Review Batch A. |
Blog Review of beautiful. |
[b][e][a][u[t][i][f][u][l] is a shopping blog but you would never guess it from the title or the link..........
The blog has a very interesting design. It is clear that the author has spent a long time over this. The blog is existing for nearly four years and has a strong reader base.
I like the scrolling effect of the central column and the very individual header. I feel if the title had been more reflective of shopping it would have figured higher in the search results and have had a higher Page Rank. The black background of the posts forms a wonderful backdrop for displaying photographs of shopping products.
A wonderful shopping blog overall.
Blog Review NEW YORK MUHTARI. |
This is a photo blog and a poetry blog and a tourist blog on NewYork........
This is also a bilingual blog in English and Turkish. The design is two column one with a header suggesting the tourist angle. The author is apparently an experienced traveler judging from the number of places visited by her which have been posted in the sidebar.
Because of the alternate English and Turkish translations a sense of continuity is lost as suddenly one comes upon a turkish phrase and has to leapfrog it to the next English paragraph. I think our Turkish friends get similar feelings on coming upto the English bits. It would have been better to install a translation widget in the sidebar to have a complete uni language experience. You can install such widgets in two clicks from the right sidebar of this blog. See here. Possibly the author felt something would have been lost in translation so she has supplied the translation herself. Particularly true where poetry is concerned.
The posts column has plenty of photographs which one feels could have been accompanied by more descriptive paragraphs. A Google calendar for the events in the sidebar would have been more of a resource for New Yorkers.
Not strictly a photoblog yet a delightful experience for people yearning for the big Apple's sights and sounds.
Blog Review Inspiration Lane. |
Inspiration Lane is a fairly young blog but with an innovative concept. It is an online, free, teacher-made classroom magazine for ESOL students, like a "Weekly Reader" -- but in an updated, modern, online format......
The structure of the blog is simple with one of the standard Blogger templates. I like the way "Quote of the Day", "This Day in History" and "Article of the Day" are all placed at the top but they would have been better used as spacers between the various blog sections. The photographs are inspiring and invite interaction.
The author is a Florida certified teacher and the use of a popular icon like Elvis to motivate students to learn English is a great strategy. I wish her all the best and am sure of her commitment to this project. She has turned the blog into an instructional resource and omitted her profile towards this end.
Blog Review Ja Kel Daily Dot Com. |
Today we kick off the reviews with this wonderful blog offering you great advice in how to make money on Ja Kel Daily Dot Com. It is a two column blog...........
with tabs on the top to access Home, Archives, Top Posts etc. In the sidebar there are links of Recent Comments and lists of the Top Commentators. It is full of posts the popular ones of which you can access by clicking the Top Posts tab at the top.
The posts are full of advice on motivation and making money. He has this great post on how Bloggers are millionaires and how to make it past the failure rate.
All in all worth viewing for those wanting to make money on the internet.
Blog Review John Chow Dot Com Blog. |
John Chow Dot Com blog is the famous blog by John Chow who calls his site The Miscellaneous Ramblings of a Dot Com Mogul. You have to be a regular reader of this blog if you aim to make serious money on the Internet...........
The design is minimalist with a two column layout. There is absolutely no clutter and with only ten posts on the main page it loads fast. The five important sections can be accessed through tabs on the top of the page. See below :

The sidebar contrary to expectations does not hold advertisements and contains links of Previous Posts, Featured sites, Categories, Recent Comments and Top Commentators.
The CONTENT is the main feature of this blog as it should be. It is not hidden or dwarfed by multiple Labels, huge post footers or big advertisements. There are links to related posts below each post. The links for subscription are at the top of the sidebar which is the best location for them.
This blog has a Technorati Rank of 102 and climbing fast. It has an amazing 62,894 incoming link and growing. More than 3870 Feedburner readers testify to its growing popularity.
Anyone wishing to make money on the Internet should read this blog from first post to last and become a regular subscriber to it. There is material here for the novice and tips and tricks even for the veterans. You can even post a review of his blog and he will link back to you. See Review my Blog. More power to you and all the best John Chow!

Blog Review Sylvia Hubbard Stories Blog. |
Sylvia Hubbard's Stories Blog completes two years of existence this June 2007. This is the blog of a professional author with many books to her credit. It is a Novelette Blog with free stories posted on it...........
This blog serves the prime function of promoting the author's works. Since she is a professional author she has not been able to find time to promote her blog though she has plenty of readers. It is obvious that her professional activities leave her little time for this. The blog is a three column with the middle column in yellow. See below :
There are many posts on the main page which may slow down its loading on dial up connections. Since much of the content is text this may not occur. The Google Page Rank is 4 but if SEO strategy had been adopted this could have been higher now. CONTENT IS KING they say and Sylvia prefers her content to do the talking. I would have preferred a slightly larger font size on the posts. She also manages six other blogs and another website and is owner of a publishing house besides authoring books and raising a family. Clearly a woman of substance.

Blog Review Me Myself and Me Blog. |
Me, Myself and Me is the blog of Mainak Mondal, a software engineering professional living in Mumbai the urbs prima of India. As the blog title suggests this is all about the author's life and friends and thus supports the true meaning of the blog as an online diary.........
There is no attempt at any fancy heading or decoration. The author gets straight down to the nitty gritty of his life. The blog template is the standard Harbor template from the official Blogger stables. See below
There is no attempt to decorate or inflate the Header just as in the content the author sets it out just as is. Though there are three "Me"s in the header the author is brutally frank about himself. Sometimes I hesitate to take simple decisions, since I no longer have the courage to take charge. I am motley of virulent thoughts and happy notions. I require a proper mix so as to chastise the evils lurking deep within. My 5 senses stop helping when I am bonded to the earthly sins.
There is a shoutbox in the sidebar to communicate with friends. No fancy clocks, weather widgets, music players adorn the sidebar. Plainly the blog serves a cathartic function. Posting almost fortnightly the author sets out his thoughts and actions in plain view of the world. He cares not of the judgment anyone may pronounce on hin and is equally harsh with himself.
There is no attempt to monetize the blog. Keywords, Search engines, metatags, adsense and all such sundry techniques have no place here. This is a truly pristine effort and I hope it remains so as the author struggles to find the Great Indian Novel within he, himself and he.

Blog Review Paula Mooney Blog. |
Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls today we kick of our Blog Reviews section (Drum-Roll Please) by introducing you to this whopper-of-a-site. Paula Mooney is a prolific writer who has been blogging on this site http://paulamooney.blogspot.com/index.html for the last one and a quarter year. She made 188 posts last year and this year is touching almost a century in the first three months. This clearly shows her commitment and dedication to her blog......
What strikes you on viewing her blog is the extraordinarily tall header. This occupies almost half the space 'above the fold'. This is the viewable area of the screen without having to scroll down. This is the most important area of the blog to post advertisements and experts always advise to make the maximum usage of it. However she has utilized the big header space by putting links to her labels and posts in it.
I would have liked a smaller header and a navigation bar with links in it so that the search engine spiders get hit with practically a sitemap immediately. Also the header picture should be resized to get a full light beam from the light house stretching all the way across the page. I like the concept of the lighthouse beam as a signal for all those who have lost their way to come hither for sustenance.
She has only two columns on her blog with a wide posts column. There are many posts on the main page which could cause slow loading on dial-up connections. The posts could be better separated using a separator graphic in the post footer so that each post is better delineated. There is no Labels widget in the sidebar for the viewer to see posts by category. I like the way she has expanded her COMMENTS link and the author byline just below the post title instead of in the post footer. She also has Technorati Tags in the footer besides the Blogger Labels making the blog searchable on Technorati as shown in Help Technorati Index your Posts.
This blog has a lot of Blog Juice.
The Technorati Rank is 2549 and climbing. The Alexa Rank is 187458 and climbing. There is a lot of advise on how to make money using blogs. As she is a professional author the articles are readable and entertaining. I predict a great future for this blog. Her name will soon become a brand name which will pay off all the hard work she has put into it.
