Backlinks are a measure of the importance of your blog. These are links pointing to your blog or to your posts from other sites/blogs. Google considers them so important that they form the backbone of the Page Rank algorithm. Technorati also counts the number of backlinks to your blog in the last six months when calculating the Blog Authority. Here is a method to see a chart of your backlinks..........
Technorati is a search engine which specializes in blogs. Because it is localized to a smaller subset of the Internet it is faster in calculating your backlinks. Whenever a blog post is published a ping is sent to Technorati and within minutes the Technorati spiders index the post. Any links within the post are also indexed and appear as backlinks on the account of the blog they point to. You can check the number of backlinks to your blog in all the search engines.
To show backlinks in your blog you should enable backlinks under Settings------>Comments------>Backlinks------->Show-------->Save Settings. The backlinks will show up here once Google indexes the post they are on. This may take some time as Google is a search emgine for the whole Internet. You can remove the no-follow tag on these backlinks to increase traffic to your blog.
To see your or any blog backlinks in Technorati type the following URL in your browser's address bar and press Enter :
http://technorati.com/blogs/YOURBLOGNAME.blogspot.com?reactions
Replace YOURBLOGNAME with actual name of your blog. In the new Technorati Interface these are called 'Blog Reactions'. To see the number of backlinks type in your blog URL or any other site/blog URL in the search box at the top and click the Search button. You can also do it by entering this in address bar of your browser :
http://technorati.com/search/BLOG_URL
Replace BLOG_URL with actual url of blog and press Enter. NOTE : You can check the backlinks of any blog using this method.CHART BLOG BACKLINKS
Technorati uses only the backlinks your blog has acquired in the last 180 days to determine your Blog Authority. This helps in maintaining relevance. Hence to maintain your Technorati Rank you have to keep adding new and relevant content to your blog so that others find it worth talking about and link to you or mention your blog in their posts. Google on the other hand counts backlinks from older sites as more important.
To see a chart of the backlinks of any blog type this in address bar of your browser and press Enter :
http://www.technorati.com/chartimg?q=YOURBLOGNAME.blogspot.com&days=180&width=460&height=200&type=url
Change YOURBLOGNAME to actual name of your blog. Notice the figure in red (180). This shows the number of backlinks accumulated in last 180 days. To see the number of backlinks in lesser or more number of days change this number. Here is a 7 Day Chart :
IMPORTANT : You can also check the backlinks to any individual page in your blog by typing this in your browser's address bar and pressing Enter :
http://www.technorati.com/chartimg?q=YOURBLOGNAME.blogspot.com/YEAR/MONTH/POST_TITLE.HTML&days=180&width=460&height=200&type=url
Change YOURBLOGNAME, YEAR, MONTH and POST_TITLE to actual values. This will help you to see how any backlinks a post has gathered over a period of time. You can see which of your posts are evergreen and which are waning in popularity over time.CHART SIGNIFICANCE
If there is a sudden rise in the number of your backlinks it may indicate that you have made a very popular post causing everyone to link to it. This then is the time to cash in on your new found popularity for the next six months. At the end of that period your Technorati Rank will fall as drastically as it rose. A sudden rise may also indicate a mass addition of links due to a blogroll.GOOGLE BACKLINKS
You can also check the backlinks to your blog or posts via Google. However you must expect some delay as Google searches the whole Internet and not only blogs. To see the number of backlinks enter this in the Google Search box and press Enter :
link:BLOG_URL
link:POST_URL
Replace the Caps with actual values. You can check the backlinks to any blog or any site or any page/post in this way.

Technorati Authority and Top Tags Widgets. |
Technorati has introduced a new index for blogs : Authority. Previously Technorati ranking was based on the number of incoming links from other blogs. The interface of the home page at Technorati has also been changed. Probably due to the immensely popular 'You fave me I fave you' meme going round in the blogosphere now the 'Favorited by' link is no longer prominently displayed on the home page..........TECHNORATI AUTHORITY INDEX
The Technorati Authority Index now appears first under the blog name. To check your ranking and authority you need to first claim your blog at Technorati. Then when you click onyour bloglink at Technorati OR type this inyour addressbar :
http://technorati.com/search/BLOG_URL
Replace BLOG_URL by the link to your blog minus 'http://'. My BLOG_URL would be :
betabloggerfordummies.blogspot.com
You will get your authority in the green bar (See Picture below) :
At first glance Authority appears to replace the old 'Number of Blogs linking to your blog' index but further clarification is still awaited. The bigger the number the better is your 'Authority' since it means that more blogs are linking to your blog. Your Rank is the other way around : The lesser the number means better rank since it means that many blogs are ahead of your blog in the number of other blogs linking to them.ADD TECHNORATI AUTHORITY WIDGET
You can add the Technorati Authority widget to your blog's sidebar. Login to Dashboard and click on Layout. Click 'Add Page Element' link in the sidebar section. Choose Html/Javascript option and paste the following code there and save :
<a href="http://technorati.com/blogs/BLOG_URL?sub=tr_authority_t_ns"
class="tr_authority_t_js" style="color:#4261DF">
View blog authority
</a>
Replace BLOG_URL in the same manner as before. It will take some time before it appears. See Picture below :
LABEL CLOUD FOR YOUR BLOG
Here is an easy way to add a Label Cloud for your blog. This is by using the Technorati Top Tags Cloud. In the New Blogger all labels already have the rel='tag' attribute in their links which makes them act as Technorati tags. You can use this to set up a label cloud simply by adding the following code in a Html/Javascript Page Element :
<script src="http://widgets.technorati.com/t.js" type="text/javascript"> </script>
<a class="tr_tagcloud_t_js" style="color:#4261DF"
href="http://technorati.com/blogs/BLOG_URL?sub=tr_tagcloud_t_ns">
View blog top tags</a>
Replace BLOG_URL in the same manner. See the Technorati Top Tag Cloud at the end of this post. See picture below :
The Importance of Technorati Rank for Blogs. |
Technorati is a search engine specialized for Blogs. It has developed a ranking system for blogs and presently the Blogosphere is rocking with Technorati Exchange Schemes, You-Fave-Me-I-Fave-You, The Z-List and the Technorati Train. All these are schemes designed to increase your Technorati Rank.....WHAT IS TECHNORATI RANK?
Technorati Rank is a number assigned to your blog based on the number of blogs linking to you. When you create a blog and claim it at Technorati it is assigned a rank. See the picture below :
"Technorati is now tracking over 70 million weblogs, and we're seeing about 120,000 new weblogs being created worldwide each day." With this you may expect a new blog to get a rank in the 70 millions. The test blog I created got a rank of some 3.1 million.
This means that 3,119,960 (Rank of Blog) is the number of blogs having 0 blogs linking to them.
Then I created another test blog and put a link in it to the first blog created above. I then looked at the revised rank of the first blog and saw that it had jumped nearly 35%. The new ranking meant that there are 1,989,729 blogs with more than 1 blog linking to them. See picture below :
Such huge jumps are seen only initially. As the ranking number decreases addition of a link may decrease the number only by a few hundreds.
The number of links reported in the green area is the total number in the last 180 days while the number shown in white area below is the total number of links to your blog since its existence.
The link count is calculated by looking at all links from the past 6 months. That means rank will change daily based upon your blog's activity from 180 days ago up to today. As older links fall off link count and new links are added, link count may increase, decrease, or stay the same. This means that even if links are displayed in the search results those acquired before 6 months are not taken into account when calculating the rank. Hence anyone attempting to increase his/her rank with Link Exchange experiments will have to repeat them every six months or whenever the rank starts sliding.
This means that after the first six months to prevent your rank from sliding you will have to acquire links at the same rate as you will be losing your180 days old links.
NOTE :
1. Only links in posts and sidebar and blog rolls are counted. Links in comments and backlinks are not counted here.
2. If you change the URL of your blog you do not take along your ranking unless you do a 301 redirect.
3. Make sure that your posts and blog is being indexed by Technorati.
4. Your Technorati rank is taken into account when calculating overall worth of your blog.
5. Technorati Rank is used to calculate a monetary value for your blog.SEE LINKS ACQUIRED IN LAST SIX MONTHS
Because of the importance of links acquired in the last six months here is a way to see them : Paste the URL below in your address bar and hit Enter :
http://www.technorati.com/chartimg?q=BLOG_URL&days=180&width=460&height=200&type=url
Replace BLOG_URL with the link of your blog without the initial "http://"
This will give you a graph of number of links acquired daily. If you see your Technorati Rank dropping you will see a chart with a lot of initial links and decreasing links later on in the time scale. That is then the time to indulge in some vigorous link-building exercises.
Increase Traffic With Technorati Favorites. |
UPDATE 3 OCt 2008
Technorati now bars you from adding more than 200 Favorites :
Sorry, at the moment we do not support more than 200 favorites per user. This feature is coming soon. If you wish to add this url please delete another favorite and try again or check back later.
Those who wish me to add their blog as favorite will have to wait as I do not wish to delete anyone. Hope Technorati is not going to introduce a premium service. ;-)
One of the ways to increase traffic to your blog is by getting a higher Page Rank. An increased Page Rank ensures that your blog will appear in the first few pages of search results returned by the search engines. Your Page Rank increases with the number of backlinks to your blog. If there are more blogs with your blog-link and more blogs favoriting your blog at Technorati then it helps. Dosh Dosh recently introduced this Technorati Favorites Exchange Experiment which is is open to anyone who owns a blog. As long as your blog is not full of spam you’re free to participate.........
Here are the steps you can take to get started :
1. Participate by Exchanging Favorites
This is fastest way to join the exchange program. Favorite my blog by clicking here and then please leave your Technorati username as well as a similar link to your blog in a comment below this post. Click the Post a Comment link at the bottom of this post.
To make things easy, I suggest using a Technorati favorite link or button. You can get the buttons and links easily at this Technorati page. Please leave a link to one blog only.
I will favorite all the links as soon as possible. I won’t be leaving any comments to confirm this because I’ll just be repeating myself constantly over the comment section.
Please periodically check to see who has favorited your blog and do also let me know if I’ve left you out. My email address is :

2. Make a post on Technorati Favorites and link to this post
If you are interested in holding Technorati exchanges on your blog then these are the steps you need to take:
A. Create a post on your blog announcing that you are exchanging Technorati favorites. Prominently include a link to this post to indicate that there is a similar exchange going on at Dosh Dosh and at BetaBlogger for Dummies.
Make a new post on this topic instead of putting the link in a old post that is already deep in your archives.
B. Get a Link Back. Once I’ve noticed the link via backlinks or Technorati, I’ll include a link to your post on Technorati favorites in this post itself so readers here can visit your blog to participate if they want to.
If you don't see your link up after a day or two, please feel free to send me an email. My Email address is :

Do not just copy and paste the above. Write your own exchange rules and suggestions as it helps if there is not so much duplication.
This is a win-win two-way arrangement and allows us to share traffic and readers with each other.

Help Technorati Index Your Posts. |
In Technorati for Bloggers I have described how to claim your blog at Technorati. Technorati is a specialized search engine for blogs. It indexes some 55 million blogs. There are two techniques to help Technorati index your blog...... Technorati Tags:technorati, permalink, tags, technorati tagsPOST TITLES
Technorati breaks up your weblog's home page into smaller sections such as posts and sidebars. You can help Technorati's spiders properly identify a unique post and its proper link destination by adding a link with a defined relationship of "bookmark" for each post. For example in the new blogger your post titles are shown by this code :
<a expr:name='data:post.id'/>
<b:if cond='data:post.title'>
<h3 class='post-title'>
<b:if cond='data:post.link'>
<a expr:href='data:post.link'><data:post.title/></a>
<b:else/>
<b:if cond='data:post.url'>
<a expr:href='data:post.url'><data:post.title/></a>
<b:else/>
<data:post.title/>
To see this code login to Dashboard and click on Layouts. Click edit Html subtab at top and check the box to Expand Widgets Template. Scroll down in edit Template text box till you come to above code. In the above code locate this line :
<a expr:href='data:post.url'><data:post.title/></a>
and change it to the line below :
<a expr:href='data:post.url' rel='bookmark'><data:post.title/></a>
Save Template. Now your post title is a permalink as well as easily identifiable to the Technorati spiders.TECHNORATI TAGS
A tag is a category name used to categorize your posts in the blog. To make Technorati tags for all your posts put a rel="tag" inside the link code. For example to put a technorati tag of Permalink include this code in the Edit Html tab of your post :
<a href="http://www.technorati.com/tag/permalink" rel="tag">permalink</a>
You can do this without linking to technorati. For example :
<a href="http://betabloggerfordummies.blogspot.com/2006/12/technorati-in-blogger-beta.html" rel="tag">Technorati</a>
Publish post after adding your tags. See bottom of this post where I have added them. After publishing post do not forget to ping Technorati to let them know that you have added content. See Pinging simplified or try a Multipinging Tool to inform multiple search engines in one go.
How Juicy is Your Blog? |
You have been blogging for some time now. As shown in Submit Site you have submitted blog to search engines. You have also pinged the after every post as directed in Pinging Simplified. Your blog has become fatter and fatter with all that content, but is it juicy enough? Has it ripened? Where does your blog stand alongside its peers? Well, here is a site which tells how much 'juice' your blog has...... Technorati Tags:blog juice, alexa, technorati, bloglines
This site measures your blog juice based on four parameters :
1. Approximate number of Bloglines subscribers (weightage - 40%).
2. Alexa Rank for your site (weightage - 15%).
3. Technorati Rank of your site (weightage - 30%).
4. Inbound Links to your blog as per Technorati (weightage - 15%).
Taken together they estimate your Blog Juice on a scale of 1 to 10. To calculate your Blog juice head over to the Blog Juice Calculator. and paste your blog url in the field given. Next Choose the category your blog is in and instantly your Blog Juice is calculated and displayed as a badge. See below :
If you wish to compare your juice with some other site you can enter the url of the other site in the compare to box and click on Add.
You can also add this badge to your blog. Copy the code and paste it in a Html/Javascript Page Element in the sidebar. To add it see How to add Widgets to your blog.
Is Your Blog Worth More Than Anna Nicole Smith? |
Yes! Is Your Blog Worth More Than Anna Nicole Smith? Wouldn't you like to know? Well there is a way to find out... Technorati Tags:blog worth, technorati, anna nicole smith
First you will have to head over to Technorati.com and claim your blog there as shown in Technorati in Beta Blogger. Once you claim your blog click here.
The author has created a applet using Technorati's API which computes and displays your blog's worth using the same link to dollar ratio as the AOL-Weblogs Inc deal. The worth of your blog is displayed in an image. You can copy and paste the code into your blog so that it appears in the sidebar. This is a great motivation tool as you can see the value rising as you continue to blog.
To install the code in your blog login to Dashboard and click on Layouts. The Page Elements tab opens. Click on Add Page Element link at the top of the sidebar and choose Html/Javascript Page Element. Paste the given code under contents and Save. Refresh cache and View Blog.
Pinging Simplified. |
Pinging is a process of attracting the search engines for indexing your blogs.... Technorati Tags:backlinks, google, ping, search engines, technorati, yahoo
A Blog is a special type of website which has dynamic content constantly being updated as opposed to a static website. A static website's content does not renew itself constantly. Hence it is difficult to attract the search engines repeatedly to index the site. It may take upto two months for a static website to get indexed while blogs are indexed almost immediately. Blogs, because their content constantly renews itself attract the attention of search engines like Google and Yahoo.
Ping is the process by which a blog notifies a search engine that new content has been added and the search engine responds by sending its spiders which are automated bots or programs which crawl the site and index its contents. You can automate the ping proces s by going to Settings----->Publishing------->Notify Weblogs.com------->Yes------>Save Settings. You can also ping multiple search engines with one click at Autopinger.com or Pingoat.com or Pingomatic.com.
You can ping feedburner at http://www.feedburner.com/fb/a/ping.
You can ping Technorati at http://www.technorati.com/ping. To get Yahoo to index you faster create a My Yahoo Account. After publishing a post ping the search engines with the URL of your post and not the URL of your blog.
At the bottom of your My Yahoo click the Add Content link. In Find Content box clickon Add RSS by url link next to Find Button. In the next window paste your Beta blog Feed url into the text box and click Add.
The URL of your beta blog's feed is
http://yourblogname.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/full
http://yourblogname.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss
Substitute your actual blog name instead of 'yourblogname' in above links. This will add the content of your blog to the My Yahoo page and Yahoo will send its spiders across faster. To ping Yahoo faster go to http://www.technobloggie.com/ping-yahoo.cfm. Type in your blog url and click on Create Yahoo ping code. A URL link is generated. The link will be of this type :
http://api.my.yahoo.com/rss/ping?u=http://yourblogname.blogspot.com/
Bookmark this link in your browser and at the end of publishing any post just click on this bookmark to ping Yahoo.
Pingback is a process by which Web authors request notification when somebody links to one of their documents. Blogger does not currently support pingbacks or trackbacks.
Blogger instead has the Backlinks feature which enables you to keep track of other pages on the web that link to your posts. For example if someone else posts on a topic similar to yours and links back to your post then your post will automatically show a link to the other post. To enable Backlinks go to Settings------>Comments----->Backlinks------->Show--------->Save Settings. These links are shown under the posts with the title "Links to this Post" next to the Comments link. Clicking that link takes you to the post page where all the backlinks are shown under the post and the comments.
Technorati in Blogger Beta. |
Technorati is the search engine for blogs and hence no blogger can afford to go without it in his/her blog................ Technorati Tags:atom, feed, google, ping, rss, search, search engines, tags, technorati
Google is the generalized search engine for the web. Technorati is a search engine which is specialized for blogs. Blogs in contrast to other web sites have ever changing content and Technorati focuses on them by searching them for keywords. Each blog is indexed and individually ranked among the 50 plus million blogs in today's blogosphere. The major differences between the two are outlined below :GOOGLE TECHNORATI Generalized Search Specialized Search Searches static, inactive Web Searches Dynamic Web No Focus Focuses on Blogs Infrequent visits to site Immediate indexing of content More sites to cover Less sites to cover increasing efficiency Covers World Wide Web Covers World Live Web
Just as you have to submit your site to Google and the other search engines you have also to 'submit' your blog to Technorati so that other bloggers/readers can find your blog in the blogosphere. Also by doing so you can analyze your blog traffic, backlinks and find out your blog rank.
To register with Technorati go to Technorai.com and click on Join link at the top or click here. After registering you have to 'claim' your blog which is like submitting your site. To do this go here. Claiming your blog establishes that you are the (co-)author of the blog and allows you to use other Technorati services to help increase the visibility of your blog.
During the claiming process Technorati will give you a snippet of code which you have to paste in a Html/Javascript Page Element in the sidebar. To do this go to Page Elements subtab of Template tab and click on Add Page Element in the sidebar. In the new window choose Html/Javascript option and paste the code in contents and save. Having done this go back to technorati and click on Verify so that Technorati spiders your blog. Automatic robots known as "spiders" are released by Technorati to discover content on your site and its feeds. Technorati uses RSS feeds to track updates to millions of blogs. After updating your blog or after every post you have to ping Technorati to let them know that fresh content has been added. It then sends the spiders to index the content.
Each blog you claim will be listed on the Your Blogs page. To make sure the world can see it on Technorati, click the "Configure Blog" button and check to make sure that "Include this blog in Technorati's Blog Finder" is checked. This includes your blog in its Blog directory.
Technorati receives alerts from the Blogger servers whenever a user updates his or her public weblog. To set this automated ping go to Settings---->Basic----->Add your blog to our listings----->Yes---->Save Settings. Blogger will now ping Technorati automatically whenever content is updated.
Technorati breaks up your weblog's home page into smaller sections such as posts and sidebars. You can help Technorati's spiders properly identify a unique post and its proper link destination by adding a link with a defined relationship of "bookmark" for each post. For example:
<a href="http://blog.bloghost.com/post1" rel="bookmark">Post title</a>
Technorati also uses tags to index your blog. A tag as a simple category name. People can categorize their posts, photos and videos with any tag that makes sense. For example if you have a post about films you can tag it with the tag 'film'. Another post about family matters can be tagged as 'family'. Thus you can have posts on various subjects within your blog all neatly categorized using tags. In Beta Blogger tags are called as Labels.
There are two types of tags recognized by Technorati. Post tags are tags added to your posts and they allow your posts to be listed in Technorati's tag search here. To add the tags, add the below code for each tag you'd like add to your post into the body of your post.
<a href="http://technorati.com/tag/[TAGNAME]" rel="tag">[TAGNAME]</a>
Publishing a tagged post in Blogger automatically pings Technorati about updated content. If your blog software supports categories and RSS/Atom feeds just use the included category system and make sure you are publishing RSS/Atom feeds and your categories will be read as tags.
Blog Tags are tags added to your blog on Technorati's Blog Configuration page here. These tags allow your blog to be listed in Technorati's Blog Finder and Explore feature.
Technorati indexes the home page of your weblog assisted by the content of your web feeds. If the home page of your weblog contains summaries or plain-text with no links Technorati may not recognize and index your full posts.
If you use the Atom syndication format to publish the content of your weblog Technorati can still index the full text of your post regardless of your content choices on your weblog home page. Just include your entire post within the content element of each entry and we will recognize this content as the full content of your post.
