If you wish to increase traffic to your blog you should add your blog and or specific posts within your blog to social bookmark sites. You should put social bookmark site icons below all your posts to enable your visitors to add your posts instantly to them. You can add one social bookmark instead of many to avoid the clutter..........
Before adding this you may want to monitor your traffic to see how it increases. To do this add Google Analytics code to your template. Using Google Analytics which is totally free, you can monitor where your visitors are coming from.
Social Bookmark sites are highly ranked by Google. Having your link on these sites is like submitting your blog to directories. The Google spiders follow these links and index your site even if you have not submitted your blog to the search engines. By adding your blog/posts to these sites you are increasing the backlinks to your site. By increasing your backlinks you also increase the Page Rank of your blog.
Before adding your blog keep the following information ready in a Notepad file :
1. Blog URL/link.
2. Post URL/Permalink.
3. Blog Title.
4. Post Title.
5. Blog/Post Description.
6. Your EMail address.
7. A short excerpt from your post/blog.
To add your blog/post to a social bookmark site simply click the Add Bookmark button below every post or go to the site and register. Registration is free. After registering look for a 'Submit Blog' link in the menu on the site. Click the link, fill in the form and OK it. Other members of the site get to vote on your articles and if they are interesting enough they rise to the top of the list and attract more traffic to your blog.
Here is a list of social bookmark sites you can add your blog/posts to :

StumbleUpon for Blogger. |
StumbleUpon is another social bookmarking site which you can add to your post footers...... Technorati Tags:social bookmarks, stumbleupon, blogger hacks,
Viewers coming across any of your posts which they feel are good can "Stumble It" by clicking on the Stumble Upon icon in the post footer. Stumble Upon has a great Page Rank so if your site gets a backlink from there it can only benefit it. Besides rather than searching for quality web sites, StumbleUpon members are taken directly to web sites matching their personal interests and preferences. The StumbleUpon Toolbar is integrated with the user's browser to allow for one-click access to quality web sites. A simple 2-level rating system gives users the opportunity to pass on or give their opinion on any webpage with a single click. These ratings also connect people sharing unique combinations of interests. Stumblers share their favorite web sites and interact with other users to further improve their web surfing experience. An obscure but interesting site can be immediately shared with other like-minded users. Old or low-quality sites can be removed if their ratings become too low. The participation of community members helps maintain a database of the most up-to-date and highest quality sites possible.
First save this icon to your PC and upload it to a freehost like Googlepages and copy down its link. To add this icon to the post footer login to your Dashboard and click on Page Elements. Then click on Edit Html tab next to it. Put a check in the Expand Widgets Template box and scroll down in Edit Template text box till you come to this line in Blog Posts footer :
<p class='post-footer-line post-footer-line-3'>
Then paste the following code below the above line :
<a expr:href='"http://www.stumbleupon.com/submit?url="+ data:post.url + "&title=" + data:post.title' target='_blank'><img alt='Stumble Upon' src='URL OF STUMBLE ICON'/>Stumble it!</a>
Save Template and Preview. See the last icon below my posts where I have added it.
One Social Bookmark Replaces All. |
Social Bookmarking sites have proliferated and if all are added at the bottom of a post they tend to distract attention from the contents of the post and take up space and increase page loading time. Here is one social bookmark which will replace all those you have at the end of your post...... Technorati Tags:social bookmarks
Social Bookmarking sites are important for several reasons. They serve to store your Browser bookmarks so that you can access them from different PCs and also to share them with like interest people. These sites are frequently crawled by search engine bots and have a higher Page Rank. Hence if your blog has a link on one of theses sites it will get indexed by search engines faster.ADDTHIS.COM
For adding this button at the bottom of your posts go to
ADDTHIS.COM. Choose whether you want to add a Bookmark Button or a Feed Button. If you want to add the feed button you will have to add the URLs for your blog feed which are :
http://yourblogname.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/full
http://yourblogname.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss
Substitute actual blog name in place of yourblogname. Also choose whether you want to add it to a blog or a website and choose platform as Blogger or Wordpress or other. Then click Get Your Free Button and you will get the code. Copy that code.
Login to Dashboard and click on Layouts for your blog. Click on Edit Html tab next to Page Elements tab and first backup your template. Then put a check in Expand Templates box at top of Edit Template text box and scroll down to this line in the Blog Posts widget footer :
<div class='post-footer'>
Paste the code from addme below this line and save template. If you are inserting the feed button code there are two "&" characters in the code.
Replace both these "&" characters with "& a m p ;" without the spaces and save template. Otherwise you will get errors. You will now have the Addme buttons below the posts and on clicking them you will get a window with all the social bookmarks or the feed readers if you click the feeds button. Click on images at the left and right to see full size :

Social Bookmarking for Blogger. |
First came the Internet and then the browser. The viewer surfed the internet and 'bookmarked' those sites he/she found intresting. These sites or links were classifed as per their subject. Soon the viewer found it necessary to access bookmarks from other computers. Thus social bookmarking sites came into existence..... Technorati Tags:social bookmarks, del.icio.us, furl, spurl, simpy
Social Bookmarking sites are special sites where anyone can create an account and upload their bookmarks to it. You can make these bookmarks accessible to others by making them public or keep them private. The links within these bookmarks are classified by tagging them with keywords which signify their overall nature. Thus you can tag all your friends blogs under blogs and all the technology links under technology. Some sites periodically verify that bookmarks still work,
notifying users when a URL no longer functions. Visitors to social bookmarking sites can search for resources by keyword, person, or popularity and see the public bookmarks, tags, and classification schemes that registered users have created and saved.
Social bookmarking dates back just a couple of years, when sites like Furl, Simpy, and del.icio.us began operating. Social bookmarking is particularly useful when collecting a set of resources that are to be shared with others. Anyone can
participate in social bookmarking.
del.icio.us
The best known currently of all such tools is del.icio.us. There are some 50k users at the time of writing. This is very much a personal, out-of-hours effort by Joshua Schachter. Developed initially as a simple web page listing links with annotations, Schachter then decided to make these available on a web server so that friends and others could also make use of these bookmarks. In all the codes given below change the character '&' to '&a m p;' typed without spaces.
To add the code for del.icio.us to your blog posts Login to Dashboard and go to Layouts. Then click on Edit Html subtab of Template tab and first backup your template to PC. Then put a check in Expand Widgets Template box at top of Edit Teplate text box and scroll down to the blog posts widget footer to this line :
<p class='post-footer-line post-footer-line-3'/>
Paste the following code below the above line :
<a expr:href='"http://del.icio.us/post?url=" + data:post.url + "&title=" + data:post.title'> <img alt='Del.icio.us' src='URL OF DELICIOUS GIF'/></a>
Save the image above to your PC and then upload it to a freehost like Googlepages and then paste its link instead of 'URL OF DELICIOUS GIF' in above code. Save Template.
Furl
Furl (for 'File URL'), first programmed in '03 by Mike Giles, had its official public launch in January '04. It has now attracted several hundred thousand users. A distinctive feature of Furl is that it saves web pages as well as links with each member being allocated some 5 GB of storage. Furl was created in response to the author's personal need for full text searching in order to find information he had previously read. Many Furl users have built up extensive libraries, and full text searching is seen by many as the most important way to recall this information. Tagging is considered a secondary activity. An interesting problem with hosting local copies of bookmarked pages is the potential for copyright infringement, if, for example, pages that require subscription access to view are being saved in their entirety on a third-party service. Furl has bypassed this problem by limiting access to the hosted copy to the original user who bookmarked it, and hence presumably has legitimate access to the content. Other users are simply directed to the original URL.
To add the Furl Bookmark to your posts add the following code at the same position as the del.icio.us code above. Also save the Furl image above and upload it to a freehost so as to add its link in the code below :
<a expr:href='"http://www.furl.net/storeIt.jsp?u=" + data:post.url + "&t=" + data:post.title'><img alt='Furl' src='URL OF FURL GIF'/></a>
Save Template.
Simpy
Simpy was authored by Otis Gospodnetić. Released in May '04, Simpy now has several thousands of active users, and several hundreds of thousands of links. The service was created for the sole purpose of organizing links: the social aspect grew out of that. Simpy allows users to track other users' bookmarks by creating 'topics'. Any number of users or specific searches can be saved to a topic, and these results will be checked for new bookmarks. These topics can then be made available as RSS feeds. The latest version of Simpy allows users to create lists of notes, which can be tagged in the same way as bookmarks.
To add the Simpy code download the Simpy image above and upload it to a freehost and put its link in the below code :
<a expr:href='"http://www.simpy.com/simpy/LinkAdd.do?href=" + data:post.url + "&title=" + data:post.title'><img alt='Simpy' src='URL OF SIMPY GIF'/></a>
Add this code in the same place as the Furl and Del.ici.ous codes. Save Template.
Spurl
Spurl.net (after 'SPecial URL') was authored by Hjalmar Gislason, and it is another example of an on-line bookmarking service and search engine. It currently has several thousands of active users.
Spurl.net, similarly to Furl, allows hosting of local copies of pages that have been bookmarked, the full text of which can then be searched. Spurl.net allows users to define their bookmarks as public (the default) or private, the latter being the most commonly selected setting. Spurl.net supports both multi-level categories, as well as user-assigned tags, and runs a special search engine Zniff that uses human information for ranking and indexing. To add the spurl code follow the same procedure as in the above cases. The code is given below :
<a expr:href='"http://www.spurl.net/spurl.php?url=" + data:post.url + "&title=" + data:post.title'><img alt='Spurl' src='URL OF SPURL GIF'/></a>
Save Template.
